Sound familiar?

Four reasons Austrian websites lose customers.

Each one is common, measurable and fixable. Here is what goes wrong, and exactly what we do about it.

01The problem

Your website stalls on a phone

Most people meet a new business on a small screen first. If your pages load slowly or the enquiry button hides below three screens of text, they go back to the results and contact the next firm on the list.

48% of websites passed Google's Core Web Vitals on mobile in the HTTP Archive's July 2025 crawl, so most still fall short Source: HTTP Archive Web Almanac 2025
How we fix it

A fast site designed for the phone first

  • Phone layouts designed first, then scaled up for desktop
  • Core Web Vitals targets written into your contract and tested before launch
  • A clear next step on every page: enquire, book or request a quote
02The problem

One Austrian search in nine skips Google

Austrian buyers mostly search on Google, and about one search in nine runs on Bing, which ranks sites from its own index. Miss either engine, the map results or AI answers, and a competitor takes the enquiry.

10.93% of searches in Austria ran on Bing in September 2026, with Google on 80.84% Source: StatCounter Global Stats, Austria
How we fix it

Get found on Google, Bing, Maps and AI search

  • SEO in German and English for the terms your customers really type
  • Google Business Profile and local SEO for every location you serve
  • Search Console and Bing Webmaster Tools set up at launch, then Google Ads judged on real enquiries
03The problem

Your site speaks one language, your buyers two

Austrian customers expect German, while buyers, staff and guests from abroad look for English. A site that offers only one, or a machine-translated second version, quietly turns part of them away.

29.8% of Austrian firms with ten or more staff already ran their website in two or more languages in 2025 Source: Eurostat, ICT usage in enterprises (isoc_ciweb), 2025
How we fix it

German and English, both done properly

  • German pages written for Austrian readers, with Austrian terms where customers expect them
  • English pages with the same depth, not a shortened summary
  • Separate URLs and hreflang tags so Google shows each visitor the right version
04The problem

A German template breaks Austrian law

Austria has its own website rules: the Impressum under the E-Commerce-Gesetz, a media disclosure under the Mediengesetz, the BaFG for accessibility and the TKG 2021 for cookies. A legal page copied from a German site cites the wrong laws and misses the disclosure.

€80,000 maximum fine under the BaFG, which has covered online shops and other consumer e-commerce services since 28 June 2025 Source: WKO, information on the Barrierefreiheitsgesetz
How we fix it

Austrian law built in, at no extra cost

  • An Impressum for §5 ECG and an Offenlegung for §25 Mediengesetz, confirmed by you before launch
  • Tested to WCAG 2.2 AA for the BaFG, with an accessibility statement ready for review
  • A cookie banner for §165 TKG 2021 with Accept and Reject side by side
The Graz market

Engineers, researchers and a growing tech scene.

Graz has 306,971 residents, and 29.6% are foreign citizens. More than 200,000 people worked in the city at the 2021 census, 24,606 of them in manufacturing, up 38.6% in ten years, while IT and communications jobs grew 79.6%. Many of these firms sell abroad, recruit internationally and write their specifications in English first.

We build Graz sites for engineers and the people who hire them: application and specification pages in English and German, data sheets one click away, careers pages written for applicants from abroad, and enquiry forms that ask for drawings and volumes. Each lead is tracked to its source, so you know which market is responding.

Straight answers

Questions Graz businesses ask.

How much does a website cost in Graz?

A site of up to five pages starts at €350, a bespoke 6 to 15 page site for a Graz manufacturer or consultancy usually costs €650 to €850, and online shops start at €750. For context, HEROLD's 2026 guide puts premium Austrian websites at €3,200 and up. We confirm one fixed total in euros, in writing, before work starts.

Is an English-first website realistic in Graz?

Often, yes. Graz scores 655 on the EF English Proficiency Index, higher than Vienna or Linz, and 29.6% of residents are foreign citizens. For B2B sales, research and recruitment, English can lead. Local consumers and many suppliers still expect German, so we usually build both, each on its own URLs.

Do you work with automotive and engineering suppliers?

Yes. With Magna Steyr's plant and AVL's engineering in Graz, many local firms sell to vehicle makers worldwide. We organise sites by capability and application, show certifications and quality systems where buyers look first, and build quote forms that accept drawings.

Can you build a site for a university spin-off?

Yes. We build launch sites for spin-offs from the Graz universities: a clear English explanation of the technology, a team page, routes for partners and investors, and a CMS your team can update as results come in. A starter site goes live in 2 to 3 weeks.

Can our website help us hire engineers and developers from abroad?

Yes. IT and communications jobs in Graz grew 79.6% between 2011 and 2021, and the competition for staff is international. We write careers pages in English, mark up vacancies for Google's job results, explain relocation clearly and track applications by source.

Our Impressum came from a German template. Is that a problem?

It can be. Austrian law governs the website of a business with its seat in Austria, so the Impressum belongs under §5 ECG, together with the disclosure under §25 Mediengesetz. A German template cites German law and usually misses the disclosure. We rewrite the legal pages for Austrian law as part of any redesign.
